Pre-Civil War KLOSTER VIELSDORF c. 1854 Antique German China Doll Covered Wagon

Original Antique Doll - Made in Germany. China Head / Cloth Body - Approx. 14.5 Tall This is a beautiful antique China-head doll from the early 1850s, made by Kloster Vielsdorf in Germany. She has a covered-wagon hairstyle, with exposed ears, and she's beautifully painted. Her cloth body is stamped "Germany" and is narrow at the waist, and she has porcelain hands and lower legs with dark brown boots that have painted blue bows at the knee. All of this appears to be original but, of course, it's often difficult to be 100% certain that the body and limbs have not been updated at some point during these dolls' long lives. Her dress is very old, with an aged velvet blue sash, and she has very nice 3-piece undergarments. She is a lovely girl who will be truly enjoyed for her beauty. Her head is unmarked, but there is no doubt that it is by Kloster. She is exactly the same as the doll appearing on page 122 of the definitive reference book, A Pictorial Reference Guide for German Chinas , by Mary Gorham Krombholz. The one she has pictured in the book is from the Beth Karp Collection. Beautiful antique condition -- from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the porcelain after careful observation. As with most/all china-head dolls, there are tiny "freckles" and pin-size "dimples" here and there from the firing process, and fine scratches here and there in the black hair. There is also some kiln cracking on the right leg, as pictured, which is also from the manufacturing process and poses no threat to the integrity of the piece. The dress has age to it, with some weakening of the weave, but still holding together quite nicely. The sash has fading on the back as pictured. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE - for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of "hair" lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors - for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc.

Any MAJOR issues -- hairline crack, total repaint, etc. - would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not. They are to be expected. I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER. Provided it's rated the same (or faster) than the service you chose.
