
She is dressed in an elaborate original silk jester costume in soft pink, green, and champagne tones, trimmed with ornate metallic braid and small bells that jingle when moved. The doll is mounted on a turned wooden handle. The original silk costume is in notably good condition for a marotte of this age. These silk costumes are frequently found heavily torn or deteriorated, particularly around the edges where the bells and trim are attached. This example shows only light age wear and remains very displayable.
It is possible I may not be operating it correctly, but the musical feature is not verified and should be assumed non-working. Bisque head marottes with their original costumes are increasingly difficult to find. This example retains its charming early silk costume and makes a wonderful display piece for collectors of antique dolls, toys, or theatrical curiosities.
