C. 1860s 21 Flat-Top Civil War Style Antique German China Head Doll Marked 6

1860s Flat Top - Civil War Style. Original Antique Doll - Made in Germany. A beautiful flat-top Civil War era china doll, marked only with a stylized "6" on the back of the shoulder plate. Her body, as you see it, is not original. However, the original body may actually be underneath, because there appear to be white kid leather patches faintly visible through the cloth.

It is a heavy body and well stuffed -- not leaking. She also has china lower arms, as well as legs from the knee down -- with painted-on boots and cute little pink bows.

Her antique red wool outfit looks lovely on her, with its exquisite antique lace collar and fine black silk ribbon. Beautiful antique condition -- from a non-smoking environment. This lovely doll has no damage to the head. There are tiny paint rubs to the hair, noticeable on close examination, and the usual few micro freckles and pocks from the firing process.

Both pupils have a small paint flake -- in almost the exact same position -- which gives the illusion of being an intentional highlight. There is a tiny crack on the bottom/back area of her shoulder plate that looks like a production defect. The antique wool dress has a few pin-size holes. All told, this lovable gal has small imperfections due to her age, and she has been priced accordingly. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE - for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of "hair" lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc.

(2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors - for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues -- hairline crack, total repaint, etc.
