Antique 1890s 18 Simon & Halbig 1079 Dolly Face German Bisque-Head Doll

Made in Germany - 1890s. Bisque Head / Composition Body - Stands Approx.

18" Tall - Marked: "SH 1079-8 DEP. " This sweetheart is a lovely 18" Simon & Halbig 1079 "Dolly Face" from the early-to-mid 1890s.

Her painting is nicely done. She has brown set eyes and a curly light-brown human hair wig. She is wearing a very pretty deep purple velvet drop-waist dress with velvet sash and mother-of-pearl buckle. A lace ruffle around neck and cuffs, and earrings in her pierced ears, complete the elegant look. Handmade lace socks and high two-tone buttons shoes add a lovely touch to her outfit.

And, of course, she comes with her little hand-woven basket with faux purple flowers. Beautiful antique condition -- from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the bisque after careful examination. The composition body is in good condition with some age cracks and chipping. The varnish on it has darkened and yellowed due to age but still displays nicely.

As mentioned, she has set eyes. As you'll often see with old blown-glass eyes, the brown irises are very slightly different in size from each other, which you can see on close examination.

IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE - for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of "hair" lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc.

(2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors - for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues -- hairline crack, total repaint, etc.
