Antique Hertwig Germany Porcelain 19 MARION Blonde China Head Pet Name Doll

  
This is an antique glazed porcelain/china head blonde "pet name" doll, Marion. I believe the china head/shoulder plate was made in Germany by the Hertwig & Co. Porcelain factory as it has the molded pet name. If so, probably dates from the early 1900's. Back of shoulder plate is stamped Patent App'd for / Germany. Doll has a glazed porcelain head, shoulder plate, lower arms/hands and lower legs/boots. Her right hand thumb is broken off as shown in photo.

Arms and legs do not appear to be as "fine" a porcelain as the head and shoulder plate and they even appear to be very slightly yellowed. They also have a bit of a stocky appearance and size.

Marion has painted black boots; plain in appearance with no painted laces or buttons. Right boot has a small chip at front toe area and both painted boots have tiny flecks of missing paint. Doll is 19 tall and has painted light blue eyes, rosy cheeks, coral pink lips and dark eyebrows. She has lovely blonde hair.

The prettiest detail (along with her blonde hair) is the glossy gold-colored (gilded-style) blouse collar and bow at the neckline along with her pet name "Marion" on the center on the shoulder plate. Doll is wearing a silky dress that is quite worn, unclean, faded, and torn in areas. She is also wearing a slip and pantaloons; I've no idea how old any of the clothing is.

Unsure, too, if the arms and legs are as old as the head/shoulder plate but they are certainly old. Glazed porcelain on head and shoulder plate is in excellent condition; no cracks, or chips. Blonde hair has only minor wear. She is in need of a new dress and underclothing and some repair on her thumb but is in good condition overall for a delicate doll so old.
