A very small group of manufacturers were innovative in producing a different style doll, long-figure half dolls. Their subjects were animals and birds with fully extended long tails and full length, reclining human figures. A clever previous owner attached this long-tailed cat to a large, plush-type powder puff.

The kitty sits on a black patterned silk pocket stuffed with cotton balls. Lace is sewn around the edge of the puff, and an old ribbon is tied around the cat's neck. Theories as to the function of these long figures include use as handles sewn to nightdress cases and boudoir pillows, sewn to rectangular pincushions, or to powder puffs and powder pats with the long legs or tails a convenient way to hold and use the item. These rare, hard to find long-figures are a novel and eye-catching way to add variety to your collection.
